Enhancing responsive caregiving practices of parents and caregivers
Implemented by OneSky | 2020-ongoing
The problem
The earliest years of a child's life are the most critical, and the adults around them determine how that potential unfolds. Yet parents and caregivers in Mongolia are too often left without the knowledge, skills and support to provide the nurturing care young children need.
Parenting programmes are largely absent, early childhood educators and childcare workers are overstretched and unsupported. This is especially visible in semi-formal ‘ger’ areas of Ulaanbaatar, home to a large and growing population of rural migrant families, where access to services remain limited. Here children grow up without safe places to play and learn, and are up to 40% less likely to enrol in kindergartens.
The solution
Our portfolio partner OneSky, a leading nonprofit dedicated to transforming early childhood care systems across Asia, works alongside governments and communities to drive lasting change. In Mongolia, this work takes a holistic approach — reaching children, families and the professionals who serve them.
-
Supporting rural migrant families to provide responsive caregiving and create nurturing home environments for their young children.
-
Strengthening teaching and caregiving practices across kindergarten, childcare and orphanage service provisions.
-
Creating spaces where children can play, develop and families connect.
